Dr Nina Marano DVM MPH Dipl.ACVPM
A native New Yorker, Dr. Nina Marano trained in veterinary medicine at the University of Georgia and in public health at Emory University. She has been an Associate Veterinarian at Powers Ferry Animal Hospital since 1991. Dr Marano is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Since 1998 Dr. Marano has also worked as an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She first came to CDC in 1998 to work in the Foodborne and Diarrheal Diseases Branch and, in 2000, joined the Meningitis and Special Pathogens Branch where she was an integral part of CDC’s anthrax bioterrorism and SARS investigations. During her tenure with this Branch, Dr. Marano was the principal investigator for the Anthrax Vaccine Research Program and a significant contributor to the US National Anthrax Response Plan. In June 2006 she was appointed Branch Chief for the Travelers Health and Animal Importation Branch within the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, whose focus is to promote travelers’ health and to prevent introduction of zoonotic diseases related to animal importation to the US. Dr. Marano is an Associate Editor for CDC’s journal, Emerging Infectious Diseases. She and her husband Fred have two daughters and a brown tabby cat named Gracie, and they all enjoy travel and gardening (even the cat!).
